Radiotherapy in India

How long you stay in India for a course of radiotherapy, where to stay, what a quote usually includes, and what to ask before you choose.

Radiotherapy uses carefully aimed radiation, such as high-energy X-rays, to treat cancer. It can be used alone, before or after surgery, or with chemotherapy. This page is about external radiotherapy, where a machine outside your body gives the treatment. Common types include IMRT (intensity-modulated radiotherapy) and IGRT (image-guided radiotherapy). A course usually means a session at the hospital each day for several weeks. Most people do not need to stay in hospital overnight, so you need a place to stay nearby. Before the hospital sends a quote, its radiotherapy doctors (radiation oncologists) review your biopsy report, scans and past treatment. The treating doctor decides whether radiotherapy is right for you, which type, and how many sessions you need.

Indicative Costs at Partner Hospitals

Each range is supplied by the named hospital. Your actual quote depends on your medical reports and choices such as implants.

No hospital has confirmed a current range for this treatment. Ask us for written quotes.

A hospital quote usually includes the planning scan, your radiotherapy sessions and check-ups with the radiotherapy doctor during the course. It usually does not include flights, visa fees, a place to stay, food, chemotherapy, extra scans or extra sessions. Ask the hospital to list both in writing.

Questions Families Ask About This Treatment

How Long Will I Stay in India?

Radiotherapy usually means a session at the hospital each day for several weeks. Your sessions usually last 5 to 7 weeks. The planning scan and preparation come first. Most people do not stay in hospital overnight. Your doctor decides how many sessions you need, so ask the hospital for its plan before you book.

Where Will I Stay During My Treatment?

You need a place to stay near the hospital for the whole course. Ask the hospital whether it can suggest places to stay nearby. Your living costs are not part of the hospital quote, so plan for them too.

What Are IMRT and IGRT?

They are types of radiotherapy. IMRT (intensity-modulated radiotherapy) shapes the radiation to fit the area being treated. IGRT (image-guided radiotherapy) uses scans to check your position before treatment. Your doctor decides which type fits your plan.

Which Reports Should I Get Ready?

Get your biopsy report, your scan reports and images, and a summary of any surgery or chemotherapy you have had. Add a list of your medicines. The hospital will tell you if it needs more. We will send you a secure link, so please do not send reports on WhatsApp.

Why Might My Final Bill Be Different from the Quote?

A quote is based on your reports. The plan can change after the team sees you and does the planning scan. The main reasons are extra sessions, extra scans, a different type of radiotherapy or other treatment you need. Ask the hospital to explain any change in writing before it charges you.

What Happens After My Last Session?

Your doctor gives you a treatment summary and a follow-up plan. Ask whether your check-ups can happen with a doctor at home. Ask whether the hospital can talk to your doctor at home.

Can a Family Member Come with Me and Stay with Me?

Ask the hospital whether a family member can come to your sessions with you. They also need a place to stay nearby. Under Government of India e-Visa rules, up to 2 family members can get e-Medical Attendant visas with your e-Medical visa. Source: indianvisaonline.gov.in, checked on 15 September 2026.

What Should I Ask the Hospital About My Quote?

Ask these questions. Which type of radiotherapy is the quote for? How many sessions are included? Is the planning scan included? Are check-ups with the doctor during the course included? What happens to the cost if the plan changes? How long is the quote valid?

This page is general information, not medical advice. Whether a treatment is right for you is decided by the treating doctor after reviewing your reports.
