Which Visa Do I Need?
Patients from Uzbekistan, Kenya, Tanzania and Mauritius can apply online for an e-Medical visa. Patients from Bangladesh should check with the Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) how to apply. Maldivian citizens do not need a visa.

- The official website says you do not need an agent or a travel agent to apply.
- You fill in the form yourself. You are responsible for your answers, so check them carefully.
- Many websites look like the official one but charge extra fees. Before you type passport details or pay, check that the address is indianvisaonline.gov.in.
Read Beware of scams for other warning signs.

Health Rules When You Arrive
- From Kenya: Kenya is on India's yellow fever list, so carry a yellow fever certificate. The High Commission of India in Nairobi says to have the vaccine at least 10 days before you travel. People who arrive without a certificate can be kept in quarantine for up to 6 days.
- From Tanzania: Tanzania is not on the list, so you do not need a certificate if you fly direct. If you change planes in Nairobi, Addis Ababa or Entebbe and wait more than 12 hours, you may need one. Check the current rule with your airline or the Indian mission in Dar es Salaam before you book.

After You Arrive in India
- Registration: some medical visa holders must register with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) after they arrive. India's immigration law changed in 2025, so please check the current rule on the official FRRO website, indianfrro.gov.in. You can also ask the hospital's international patient desk.
- Changing hospital: your visa may name the hospital that wrote your letter. If you want to change hospital after you arrive, check the current rule with the FRRO first.
- If treatment takes longer: the e-Medical visa cannot be extended. If your doctor says treatment may take longer than your visa, tell the hospital and us early. Check the current rule with the FRRO. Do not stay in India after your visa ends.
