A country-by-country guide to treatment in India

Treatment in India from Bangladesh

We help families from Bangladesh get written quotes from accredited hospitals in India. You compare the quotes and choose the hospital.

Checked on 15 September 2026

We help with cancer care, heart surgery, brain and spine surgery, and bone and joint surgery.

A 2023 study in Frontiers in Public Health asked 388 people at the Indian visa centre in Chittagong about their trip. Heart care and cancer care were among the most common reasons to travel. Most people had heard about treatment in India from family, relatives or friends.

Visa for Bangladeshi Citizens

On 30 June 2026, the news agency ANI reported that Indian Visa Application Centres (IVAC) in Bangladesh had reopened, and that tourist visas resumed on 28 June 2026.

  • Many families apply in person through an Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC).
  • Ministry of External Affairs figures show that in 2024, only 53 of 323,498 Indian medical visas for Bangladeshi citizens were e-Visas.
  • Before you apply, check with the IVAC or the High Commission of India in Dhaka which route you can use, and any service fee.
  • India's official e-Visa fee list shows a fee of US$0 for Bangladeshi citizens applying for the e-Medical visa.
  • If you are told to apply for an e-Visa, use only the official e-Visa website, indianvisaonline.gov.in. Do not apply for an e-Visa on any other website.
  • The e-Visa portal says the e-Medical visa is valid for 365 days, with multiple entries.
  • You need your passport and a letter from the Indian hospital, on its letterhead, with your planned admission date.
  • Family members who come with you can apply for e-Medical Attendant visas. Up to 2 e-Medical Attendant visas can be granted for one e-Medical visa.

Getting to India

Direct and one-stop flights connect Dhaka with Delhi and Mumbai; check airlines for current schedules.

Paying for Treatment

  • The hospital bills you directly. Pay only into the hospital's own bank account, and ask for a receipt every time.
  • We never ask you to pay us, and we never accept cash.
  • Never hand cash for treatment to an agent or a helper. Pay the hospital directly.
  • Ask your bank in Bangladesh how to send money for medical treatment abroad.

In the same 2023 study, families were least satisfied with the exchange rate, airfares and the cost of a place to stay. Ask for costs in writing, including where you will stay. Read about staying in India.

Language and Food

Our coordinators speak English, Hindi.

If you prefer Bengali, tell us. Some hospitals can arrange an interpreter, and we ask the hospital before you travel.

The 2023 study recommended better access to the right food and less of a language barrier. Tell us about your food needs, or if you want a place with a kitchen. We ask what is available near the hospital.

Scams to Watch for in Bangladesh

  • On 6 August 2026, The Daily Star reported a warning from the High Commission of India: "No official of the High Commission will ever contact you via phone, WhatsApp, social media, or email for the purpose of offering a visa or demanding money."
  • Nobody can sell you an Indian visa. Never pay anyone for a visa appointment slot.
  • Some people say they are an office or agent of a hospital in India. Check with the hospital's own website before you pay anyone.
  • If someone says they work for India Medical Cart, check with us before you share documents or money.
