  • Mauritian citizens can apply for India's e-Medical visa. Apply only on the official website, indianvisaonline.gov.in.
  • India's official e-Visa fee list shows a fee of US$0 for Mauritian citizens applying for the e-Medical visa.
  • The portal says the visa is valid for 365 days, with multiple entries.
  • Apply at least 4 days before you arrive, and no more than 120 days before.
  • You need your passport bio page and a letter from the Indian hospital, on its letterhead, with your planned admission date.
  • Family members who come with you can apply for e-Medical Attendant visas. Up to 2 e-Medical Attendant visas can be granted for one e-Medical visa.

Getting to India

Direct and one-stop flights connect Mauritius with Delhi and Mumbai; check airlines for current schedules.

Paying for Treatment

  • The hospital bills you directly. Pay only into the hospital's own bank account, and ask for a receipt.
  • We never ask you to pay us, and we never accept cash.
  • Ask the hospital for a written estimate before you pay any deposit.

The Overseas Treatment Unit and Treatment in India

  • Reports in May 2026 said the government's Overseas Treatment Unit sends patients mainly to India.
  • The same reports said access is through a recommendation from a Medical Board, and that cover for an adult was capped at Rs 1.3 million.
  • They also said about Rs 500 million was owed to hospitals abroad.

Rules can change. Check with the Overseas Treatment Unit before you plan treatment in India. India Medical Cart cannot apply for you, and cannot tell you whether you qualify.

Language and Food

Our coordinators speak English, Hindi.

If you prefer French, tell us. Some hospitals can arrange an interpreter, and we ask the hospital before you travel.

Tell us about any food needs, such as vegetarian or halal meals. We ask the hospital what is available. Read more about staying in India.

Scams to Watch for in Mauritius

  • On 9 May 2026, Defimedia reported that a minister criticised some private foundations for sending very ill patients abroad with little realistic chance of benefit.
  • The same report said public fundraising needs permission from the Police Commissioner under the Public Collections Act. Ask to see this permission before you give money.
  • Reports in May 2026 said the minister also alleged commissions and pressure on specialists linked to treatment abroad.
  • Never give cash to an agent for your treatment. Pay only the hospital.
  • If someone says they work for India Medical Cart, check with us before you share documents or money.
